Over Labor Day weekend we went up to Seattle for the last day of Bumbershoot. I was in it primarily for Nahko and Medicine for the People, but we also got the chance to see Ellie Goulding and Bassnectar so the ticket price was totally worth it!
City festivals are much different than most other festivals we have gone to. Everything shuts down at night and everyone heads back to their hotels and there isn’t anywhere just chill during the day so one day was certainly enough for me! As always we stayed in Hotel Hotel Hostel. We parked the car for free (bonus) in a quiet residential neighborhood close to the hostel and took a lift down to the Space Needle for the festival!
We were a little late getting started that morning so we grabbed some Chipotle inside the gates and headed straight for the stage Nahko was playing at!
Not a bad view if you ask me! We first heard Nahko and Medicine for the People at Oregon Country Fair last year. Since then I’ve been obsessed, I seriously listen to his album at least once a day! Since moving to the PNW my taste in music has changed significantly! Nahko provides me with a connection to his music that I’d never felt before. All of his lyrics are thoughtful and passionate and evoke emotions that I hadn’t experienced through music before!
I waited all festie season for this show! So happy that I made it to Seattle. After Nahko we made our way to a new stage and stumbled upon the artist PEACHES. Needless to say it was not my cup of tea and I wasn’t complaining that they cut her set short! I was definitely ready to go watch Ellie!
Most of the people at Bumbershoot were there to see Ellie so instead of shoving through the crowd of people we decided just to take a seat in the grandstand and listen from afar! I was totally obsessed with her oversized Donald Duck jersey during the whole show!!
After Ellie we were told we wouldn’t be able to get back into the venue to see Bassnectar so we walked around the vendors for a bit. Since all our friends were at Bassnectar we decided to try our luck and see if we could get back in, and we did! I environment of this show was something I had never experienced before. You could see the heat and the energy coming out of the stage into the lobby. Even though the seats were back and people were dancing everywhere we managed to make it back to our friends! This was the perfect way to end our night!
We weren’t ready to head back to the hostel yet so we decided to see what we could find in downtown Seattle. Oddly enough at 12:00 am on a Monday holiday there isn’t a whole lot open! We actually headed down to an open pier and got an amazing view of the city!
I started to get tired so we eventually made our way back to the hostel. Since it was so late and there were so many people in the city for Bumbershoot we decided to walk instead of getting a Lyft, we kind of forgot that it was a 3 mile walk up hill! This is definitely a night that we will always remember!
